Best Brooklyn Neighborhoods For Families

It’s hard to pick a bad neighborhood in Brooklyn these days. With so many areas full of vibrant personality, making your home in Brooklyn is all about suiting your individual lifestyle and preferences. But finding a family-friendly neighborhood presents a different set of challenges. Here are three Brooklyn neighborhoods well-equipped for family life.

Dumbo

Dumbo is one of Brooklyn’s most exciting and beautiful neighborhoods, but it’s not just for the 21 and up set. Brooklyn Bridge Park, playgrounds at Pier 1 and Pier 6 and just-for-kids arts festivals make the neighborhood a dream spot to raise a family. The summers feature pop up pools and sprinkler parks, not to mention the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory! Stay inside and bundle up in the winters and admire the views, or join neighborhood kids at various events and activities. Your kids will be the best dressed kids on the block with the various charming children’s boutiques, too!

Clinton Hill

With its vibrant arts scene, the Clinton Hill neighborhood appeals to young artists, along with young professionals and their families. The neighborhood is home to the Pratt Institute, which has attracted the area’s artists for more than 100 years.

The historic Wallabout area is on the upswing and also appeals to young professionals and artists. Most of the area’s current development focuses on Steiner Studios, a film-production facility in the Navy Yard. The studio has been home to shoots for TV shows and major movies.

Park Slope

Park Slope is considered to be a safe neighborhood with good public and private schools — in other words, a great place to raise kids. The area attracts young professionals with its hot shopping area on 7th Avenue, along with a variety of restaurants on 5th and 6th avenues.

Many streets feature historic brownstones in excellent condition. The neighborhood is pricey, featuring some of the city’s most expensive homes. Park Slope attracts an interesting mix of artists, filmmakers, musicians and young professionals, including single people in their 20s and 30s along with couples with children.

Among more than 30 neighborhoods — home to 2.6 million people — in Brooklyn, there’s something for everyone. Some of Brooklyn’s most interesting and diverse neighborhoods are also great places to raise children.
