Williamsburg

When you rent in Williamsburg, you'll live in an area noted for its live music, galleries and indie theater. The neighborhood, established in 1661 after the Dutch West India Company purchased land from local Native Americans, was known in colonial days as Bushwick Shore, where farmers sent wares to go by ferry into New York City. Artists flocked to the neighborhood starting in the 1970s due to its low rents, but a revitalization effort in recent years has sent property values skyrocketing. The neighborhood features interesting architecture, such as the French Second Empire style of the King County Savings Bank building.
